For my nephew’s second birthday, I used Amanda Soule’s book, The Creative Family, as a jumping off point for his gift. I loved Amanda’s idea for an art-on-the-go bag, and I also used her pattern in the book for the colored pencil roll. Since he’s so young, I used pretty simple contents, but Reuben loved it! The bag is a simple drawstring backpack with a big pocket on the front.
Here’s the photographic proof of the homemade contents and the final gift:

That’s adorable!! Good job, Nicole!!
This is Reuben’s dad writing. He thought it was awesome and had a fun time keeping it away from his big brother who was really curious about it.
Wow, what an amazing blog. I HAVE to bookmark that. I am definitely getting her book. She is truly amazing. I wish I was half as creative as she is. I’m so unworthy!! Thank you for bringing her to my attention!
What an absolutely adorable art kit! I had an aunt, way back when I was in grade school, who made things like this for all the nieces and nephews! We all LOVED what she would make us! Your nephew is gonna love it!
I love this! And I think it might be something I could actually pull off. Umm…and I just thought about this as I was typing that…Do you remember that pillow I made for David in college? It was kind of hard for me
I’m glad you all liked this! Seriously, The Creative Family is an awesome book!
@Beth, you could totally handle this, not much harder than a pillow!
Neat to see it in action! I just read it in the Creative Family book earlier this month.
