As I sit here writing this I feel like I am entering the end zone. The plumber is in my kitchen as we speak, hooking up our sink, dishwasher and water for the refrigerator… After that we have a few cosmetic finishes (painting and crown moulding) and we will be able to call it offically finished!
Here are a few pictures, that show our granite, tile, and hardware, not to mention our awesome organized pantry (thanks to the container store elfa drawers).
The kitchen remodel process has been long at times, and I think it some ways I had a few unrealistic expectations about time and cost! We made considerable cost and time savings in some departments, but there were a few things (like new floors) that took me by surprise.
Something that has been a lot easier than I anticipated has been cooking in a makeshift kitchen. We set up our microwave, toaster oven, rice cooker and of course my all important espresso maker in our bedroom while we remodeled. While the meals have not been very creative, they have filled a hole, without us having to blow the budget by eating out every night. There are quite a few things you can do with those appliances, and we also managed to get our range hooked back up quickly so we weren’t without a cooktop. Washing our dishes in the sink has been challenging (and a few had to hit the bathtub becauase they were too big!), but really not that bad. It made me keep on the dishes, and not let them pile up like I sometimes do.
Thank you for journeying with me, feel free to leave a comment telling me what color I should paint!

ooo, I love the look of the tile/granite together. Call me crazy but I think red would be a nice accent color!
My mom once cooked out of a makeshift kitchen for more than a year when my dad’s do-it-yourself kitchen remodel took much longer than expected! She relied heavily on her rice cooker, and even toyed with the idea of writing a recipe book based on her experience. Feel free to steal the idea!
