God did give us the important job of caring for His creation. I think things get messed up when the creation becomes what is worshiped, and then the "baby gets thrown out with the bath water," so to speak. It really is such a blessing that God entrusted us with His creation, and so good to appreciate it and bring order (subdue the earth) where there is chaos.
