January and February Memory Verses

Beth Moore Scripture Memory I've joined up with other readers of Beth Moore's blog, the Living Proof Ministries Blog to strive to memorize 24 scriptures in 2009, or 2 a month. It's called the "1st & 15th" challenge, and starting on the 1st and the 15th of every month we memorize a new verse.

I've been trying to practice reciting them out loud when Chiquita and I go on our morning walks. She seems to enjoy hearing them, and I love exposing her to the Word of God. It's really cute to hear her say "Amen!" when I'm all done.

Here are the verses I've chosen for January and February.

Verse 1 Psalm 139:23-24 -This verse spoke to me as I was reading "Calm My Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow.

Search me, Oh God, and know my heart. Try me and know my anxieties, and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

Verse 2 Joshua 1:8- I like this verse because it gives a counter-cultural look at what success is. I want to memorize scriptures so that I am successful in the Lord's eyes, not in the world's.

Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so that you may learn everything that is written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (NKJV)

Verse 3 2 Corinthians 10:5- I'm trying to learn to be critical of my thoughts.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. (ESV)

Verse 4 Psalm 147:2-4- I couldn't resist memorizing this one, after feeling like the Lord gave it to me Himself last week.

The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of stars; He gives to all of them their names. (ESV)

Speaking of verses, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you that shared one, or a song, or something else encouraging with me on my last post. It means so much to me.
